plaid to the bone.

wiley wears:

sweater: banana republic
top: abercrombie
belt: anthropologie
skirt: 1940s pendelton wool
tights: uo
boots: jeffrey campbell
i am in love with my outfit today.  i felt festive and cozy all day long.  this skirt was a great thrifting find, and i was not sure about the length and pondered hemming it up a bit shorter, but after wearing it on a cold day, i realize the length may be perfect.  what do you think?  i wanted the skirt to be the center piece of the outfit so i worked in some of the skirt's colors in my sweater, belt and tights.  the red belt and tights were the perfect way to bring out the thin red plaid in the skirt. the ruffled top made the outfit feel a bit softer and balanced out the plaid.  it was one of those amazing days where everything just comes together.  i am very much looking forward to a couple of days off to celebrate with great friends!  i will keep you all posted on my very fabulous new years eve dress.  i hope everyone has a great new years!

gray days.

wiley wears:

sweater: thakoon for target
button-down: old navy
pants: gap
scarf: shepard fairey
beret: uo
boots: payless
every day this week has felt like monday.  how can that be?  this morning i threw on what became a collage of grays.  it is one of my favorite colors, but i wonder if i may have gone overboard this time?  if i did this outfit over again i would probably wear it with some black booties.  no cute outfit could have kept me warm and toasty on this blustery freezing day, but at least my layers and scarf kept me from freezing.  tomorrow i am trying out a new outfit that i am really excited to wear!  hopefully it will keep me warmer than my outfit today.

twas the night before christmas.

wiley wears:

romper: anthropologie
cardigan: j.crew

my christmas eve outfit was one of my favorites of my vacation.  i spent much of my vacation in pajamas and yoga pants.  not usually my thing, but i have to admit that i enjoyed every second of that loungewear.  there is quite a story behind my beloved scottie romper.  my friend kate/my style soulmate was recently visiting boston from seattle when she showed me the romper she found at anthro in seattle.  it was love at first sight for me.  after a week of non-stop thinking about this romper i sent kate a text asking if she would help me locate one of these at a seattle based anthro.  luckily for me, i have one of the most amazing friends and she located what may have been the last unsold scottie romper nationwide.  i received it in the mail on christmas eve and knew that had to be my outfit for the evening.  it was fun, festive and playful, a great combination for a night of games, drinking, eating and conversation.  it may be my most beloved piece of clothing!  i cannot wait to find more opportunities to wear this outfit!  so from the bottom of my heart, this one goes out to you kate fay! xoxo
merry christmas!

corduroy. not the bear.

wiley wears:

dress: borrowed from paige
tights: uo
knee socks: target
boots: uo
infinity scarf: american apparel
i spent the day before christmas, shopping with my family.  in all of the insanity of shopping on the the 23rd of december, this dress served its purpose.  i felt like i had an almost safari theme going, but luckily the dress was a soft minty corduroy which kept it from looking like a costume.  i thought the green and gray worked really well together with the dress and the socks, so i decided to add my amap tube scarf for another hint of gray.  for racing around the mall on one of the busiest shopping days of the year, i think my dress, tights, socks and boots made a stellar combination.

santa, one of these hats please...

wiley wears:

sweater: proenza schouler for target
tee: splendid
jeans: paige
boots: target
hat: borrowed from stacey (cabela's)
today i spent the afternoon taking my mom back and forth to doctor appointments.  she had both her knees replaced two weeks before christmas, so it has been great being home a little early and getting to spend lots of time with her.  i wanted something that would be conducive to a day in and out of the car.  these trouser jeans are the perfect pair of denim for the coldest days of winter.  the heavy denim keeps me extra warm.  i got this sweater a couple of years ago and it played to my obsession with the navy and white combination.  i love the detailing around the neck.  those designer collections at target are so amazing.  nothing better than something that is cheap and looks expensive.  i threw this hat on at the last minute since it was so cold out for taking pictures.  my cousin stacey, who is pretty much the cutest thing ever, let me rock it, and i must say, i really want one now!  that hat is so soft and ridiculously warm!

a snuggie may have been a more appropriate outfit choice.

wiley wears:

tee: vintage from nana
sweater: gap
cashmere skirt: thrifted white + warren
tights: uo
knee socks: target
boots: urban
on saturday jeb and i went to his family christmas party.  we had a great time and i was thankful i wore a lot of comfortable clothing since we ate copious amounts of food.  there was also a yankee swap, which is always fun.  although this year i thought i had the super original idea of bringing a snuggie as my swap gift.  i was heartbroken when i realized that two others had brought the same gift!  jeb did some math and 16% of the party guests went home with a snuggie!  too funny.  i wanted to wear lots of layers since it was really chilly outside so i decided on this tee my nana gave me years ago.  its so soft and worn, the perfect combination.  and the piece de resistance, this cashmere skirt i found at the thrift store last weekend.  it is so soft and fits like a glove.  i added some tights and knee socks to pull everything together and make the ensemble winter-proof.
i am home in pennsylvania for the holidays now and loving spending all this time with my family.
i hope everyone is having a great holiday!

ahoy sailor!

wiley wears:

coat: uo
sweatshirt: the black dog
sailor pants: uo
shoes: sperry topsiders
my entire outfit was based around these sailor pants.  i own the very same pair in four colors; tan, navy, brown and black.  i would have to say they may be the most comfortable pants ever, and i think they look pretty awesome as well.  i have always had a soft spot for anything nautical.  so today i expanded the sailor theme, wearing my pants with a navy and white striped sweatshirt and my favorite pair of boat shoes.  i was so warm and toasty (mostly thanks to my layers of leggings underneath).  jeb and i bought some last minute christmas presents, thrifted, ate a delicious dinner out and browsed the harvard bookstore.  it was a great laid-back evening and now i am looking forward to laying on the sofa in my pj's and watching a movie while sipping some malbec.

i may be a vampire.

wiley wears:

dress: rohit gandhi-rahul khanna
blazer: vintage donna karen
belt: thrifted
tights: uo
shoes: uo
i am so pale that i am almost transparent during the day...at least that's what it looks like here.  but luckily this post is all about the dress.  i saw this beauty and thought it would be the best dress for my office holiday party.  we had such an amazing time at foxwoods.  dinner at shrine was incredible...two of my favorite dishes, calamari and lobster rangoon, among about fifteen other dishes.  the food was beyond delicious and we danced the night away and had such a great time.  this silk dress made for some excellent dancing!  it is two layers of silk; the bottom layer is a gorgeous rich navy, while the top layer is a rusty brown.  i love pairing black and brown together; breaking what i once believed to be the ultimate fashion rule.  without the belt the dress is gorgeous and flowing, which i think will be great for warmer weather, but for last night i wanted a cinched waist and for the skirt to really have some body.  the stand-out detail on the dress is the delicately sequined neckline. gold, rust, and gray sequins made the dress feel like the ultimate holiday piece.

tomorrow, tomorrow...

wiley wears:

cardigan: thrifted
blouse: gift from julia (thrifted)
tee: splendid
pants: gap
shoes: jeffrey campbell
i just realized how tired i look in these pictures. (sorry guys!)  it has really felt like a long week, but tomorrow it all pays off...my company holiday at foxwoods is tomorrow night!  it will be such a nice reprieve to the usual work week.  today i was excited to break out a new shirt that julia gave to me last week.  there is absolutely nothing better than when someone sees something and knows it should belong to you.  it made me feel happy as soon as i put it on today.  i really liked how the paisley shirt had a scarf-like effect under the pink cardigan.  i am always excited to try layering in new ways during the coldest months of winter.  this experiment proved successful, and i look forward to layering some more button-up pieces on top of one another.

preparing for hibernation.

wiley wears:

trench: gap
dress: j.crew
cardigan: uo
tights: uo
boots: uo
belt: uo
i took the opportunity today to wear one of my favorite fall trenches since the temperatures here are supposed to drop into the twenties for the next few days.  i have had this trench since my freshman year of college and it never dissapoints.  with black, gray and brown plaid, it matches everything!  underneath i wore one of my favorite navy cotton dresses, threw on a belt,  a comfy gray cardigan and tights.  is it sad that comfort seems to be the most important thing when picking my outfit in the mornings?  at 6:30 it is quite difficult to care about much more than something that i can slip right on. (my number one reason for loving the weekends!)

quite a bit of ground to cover.

so this saturday i went to the boston fashion blogger meet-up at luna boston.  it was a fabulous time.  i was able to meet some of the bloggers who have been an inspiration to me and they were all incredibly kind and welcoming.
the first picture is caroline of, miracle&wonder and i gabbing, as we did for most of the day.  and as for the second picture, i apologize for the quality (care took it with my phone), but its the only picture i have of the bag i fell in love with!  luna boston had so many great bags, and even set out some of the spring 2010 bags for us to preview.  this rebecca minkoff and i are meant to be  soft blue leather covered with studs in varying metals.  i cannot wait until spring 2010!
thank you so much luna boston and the fabulous hosts of this get-together!

and....as for my great turn of luck....let me present:

i won this sweet vintage patent leather purse at saturday's raffle.
thank you punkystyle!!

a bit of a cupcake taste test.

wiley wears:

shirt dress: h&m
blazer: vintage donna karan

my friend lin was sweet enough to host a few gals for a nice dinner this week.  she made a delicous veggie mac&cheese and we finished it up with plenty of red wine and a delicious cupcake taste test.  lin was also kind enough to do a little photoshoot with me.  we had a great time doing it, and i hope everyone enjoys the pictures!  the last pic is of me and case, lin's fabulous boyfriend.  he was lucky enough to walk in mid-ladies night and got to enjoy all the girly chat and of course, some of the cupcake taste test.

what's black and white and spotted all over?

wiley wears:

top: banana republic
blazer: uo
jeans: bdg
shoes: jeffrey campbell

today my outfit started out a bit differently than it ended up.  i began the day only with my silk top and jeans.  i was frozen within the first four hours of work and stopped by urban to see if there were any good blazers or sweaters that would match my ensemble.  lucky for me, this awesome ivory blazer was on sale and i was able to piece together the perfect outfit for today.  it might be hard for me to part with this jacket for a couple of days.  while commuting home i came up with so many great outfits i could wear with this sweet baby.  so stay tuned for future sighting of this great little blazer.
(i apologize, but jeb was away this weekend, so i had to take these photos using self-timer. as you can see, i'm pretty terrible)

pinky tuscadero.

wiley wears:

top: lux via uo
skirt: ben sherman
cardigan: kensie
tights: uo
boots: uo
earrings: gift from ebi (shake the tree)

my friend noelle's mom always used to call me pinky tuskadero when i was young because i only wore pink (and i mean every day).  so of course, she became my favorite character during her short run on 'happy days.'  today in the spirit of pinky i wore one of the few pink pieces i still wear today.  my mom got me this ben sherman skirt at one of my favorite boston boutiques, mint julep, a couple of years ago and i have gotten so much wear out of it.  its super soft and the layers make it warm enough for even the most blustery days.
so today....is ebi's birthday!  i was so sad not to be able to go out tonight for her birthday dinner, but i wanted to make sure she knows how much i love her.  so...happy birthday ebi!  i hope you had a gorgeous day! in honor of ebi's special day i would like to highlight her funky and fabulous foot tats.

12.08.2009

off to hogwarts?

wiley wears:

blazer: forever21
tank: guess
cigarette pants: gap
necklace: anthropologie
boots: jeffrey campbell

this blazer makes me feel like i'm either a character in harry potter or gossip girl.  i fell in love with it at first sight, and on top of being adorable it was only twenty bucks!   the blazer was the perfect way to brighten up an all black ensemble.  the crowning glory of this outfit is definitely this black anthropologie necklace.  it adds a little flare to any outfit.  when i bought it they had it in an array of colors.  it was really hard to decide which to go with, i was torn between this black one i bought and one in an olive green tone.  i went with the black, thinking it would be a great way to dress up my favorite little black dress.  and guess, what?  i think i made the right decision.  i just love love love this necklace!  now i will stop rambling about it.
and tomorrow...SNOW!  there is talk of 1-3 inches. very excited.

12.07.2009

baby, it's cold outside.

wiley wears:

tank: uo
sweater: old navy
skirt: american apparel
tights: h&m
boots: barney's

the last picture here is what i wish i wore.  these last couple days have reminded me of what winter is actually like in boston.  it was freezing when i woke up this morning so my big soft gray sweater immediately caught my eye.  this colorful tank was the perfect way to add a pop of color to an otherwise muted outfit.  the colors in this top remind me of summer (the pattern looks a lot like decoupage, which always makes me think of summer camp).  i was incredibly comfortable all day and considering the heat in my office was not working until three o'clock, it was lucky i wore the thickest, coziest sweater i own.  as much as the weather has been cold and dreary the past few days, i cannot help but love winter in boston.  it feels so authentic here.  sometimes when i'm walking around i feel like i'm walking through the set of a movie.  i feel so blessed that i get to live in the city i have always loved!

12.06.2009

snow and the city.

wiley wears:

dress: h&m
blazer: gap
tights: h&m
belt: thrifted
boots: hunter

sorry about the terrible picture, but this being the first real snow, i absolutely had to have my picture taken in the midst of the flurries.  i have realized that my hunter wellies make the best snow boots, mostly with the amazing fleece linings i bought for them.  an all-around fabulous purchase.  i was not willing to let the cold wet weather ruin my outfit plans for the night.  i love this dark purple jersey dress. (i know i said no jersey for awhile, but i just cannot help myself.)  the dress is a really thick knit, so paired with wool tights it was great for a snowy evening out.  the dress is kind of loose fitting, so i wanted to wear the blazer and belt to bring it in at the waist.  the overall effect was a nice full skirt that was wonderful for twirling and dancing at the ryan montbleau show.

12.05.2009

potato pizza. please.

wiley wears:

silk top: marc jacobs
cardigan: j.crew
jeans: paige
necklace: anthropologie
flats (not shown): jeffrey campbell

so as promised, yesterday i wore an outfit made up of many colors and textures...not just cotton jersey.  this outfit had to work for both the office and a night out on the town.  it worked out great for both.  i spent my evening with some of my very best friends.  we went to one of my favorite restaurants, cambridge one, where i had a delicious potato pizza!  then we spent the rest of the night dancing at a super cheesy bar. overall a great time.
i went to my closet yesterday with a mission to find some bright pieces to pair together.  i love this silk marc jacobs top. it's so versatile, and tucked into an awesome pair of trouser-style jeans it looks cheery but put together.  i wish my shoes were in one of the pictures.  they are an awesome pair of nude eyelet flats.  i will make sure to wear them soon and photograph them.

12.03.2009

purple haze.

wiley wears:

dress: velvet via anthropologie
tee: lux via uo
sweater: norma kamali via walmart
tights: h&m
boots: barneys

today's title describes my day perfectly.  after an exhausting week, mostly due to mid-week gaga, i have not been able to get my energy back.  when i woke up this morning the weather was horrific; rainy and super super windy.  i decided to layer up and throw a tee under a cotton dress to create the look of a jumper.  i think the over all look worked, very soft, very cotton.  realized today that i have been wearing a lot of cotton dresses and tees lately.  time to change it up!  looking forward to putting together some more textured combinations in the next few days.

12.02.2009

out of the purse. ready to wear.

wiley wears:

dress: gap
tank: anthropologie
tights: target
boots: target

after lady gaga i had a slumber party at jill's apartment.  it was important to find something i could stuff in my purse the night before and be able to pull out and put on for work the next day.  this jersey dress from gap could not be more perfect for today.  i pulled it out of my purse ten minutes before leaving the house, threw it on, and its been wrinkle-free and great all day long.  i put a tank and tights on underneath the dress to keep it office-appropriate and threw on my favorite target cowboy boots.  i have been really drawn to this dark green color of this dress the last few weeks.  i guess i am subconsciously getting into the christmas spirit!
