day off attire.

dress: pins & needles
blazer: lux
belt: vintage
tights: f21
brogues: miss me
scarf: american apparel
just got back from my breakfast with gilt city.  i have to say, i was so impressed with the entire concept and how many great ideas are in the works.  it was great brainstorming and giving insight about some of my own favorite places to shop and eat in boston.  overall, just a great time with great people.
since i have the day off i had a little bit of fun with my outfit this morning.  a much shorter dress than would pass in the office with my very loved mustard tights.  i thought i'd wear a menswear style blazer to add some proportion and juxtapose the masculine fit with this ruffled floral dress.  the brogues can in handy for this same reason.
off for some day-off adventures.
happy veterans day!

the birthday blog.

today my blog is one year old.
i wanted to take my blog out for a champagne cocktail, or at least find the perfect little gift...but instead, i guess i will celebrate all the friends i've made, fun i've had and outfits i have put together for the last 365 days.
off to a gilt city breakfast followed by a day of relaxation.

style spotlight: annie hall & menswear.

annie hall is one of my top five favorite movies. (so is high fidelity, if you get the top five reference.)  i love everything about it; the cynical discussion on relationships, a neurotic woody allen at his best, and most of all, annie's stylish menswear.  diane keaton defined a new style in this film and i will forever be in awe of her daring menswear ensembles.  two years ago i went as annie hall to a halloween party and decided that if someone didn't know who i was, then they just weren't worth knowing.
i am inspired to grab some trousers, a vest and my favorite pair of brogues and throw together my own modern day annie outfit!
who's with me?

my annual trip to the drycleaner.

wiley wears:

dress: bcbg
belt: vintage
tights: uo
boots: uo
somedays the outfits don't photograph as well as i would like, but i swear, this outfit looked kick ass.  this silk dress had been piled on the 'needs to be drycleaned, c'mon brooke, it's been six months now' pile.  i finally got it drycleaned and then struggled with a new way to wear it.  in the past i've usually worn it with black accessories, tights and boots, but last night i brainstormed new ways to bring some color to this very neutral dress.  i thought this blue suede belt i found at the sowa market might be the perfect color to pull into the dress.  with a pair of funky tights in a similar shade of blue and my winter suede boots i thought the outfit came together quite well.

flashback to friday.

wiley wears:

tank: splendid
cardigan: gap
skirt: target
tights: h&m
boots: vintage
necklace: j.crew
oh, monday.  i'll say it again...i cannot take these rainy monday mornings.  while the light made it a bit easier to wake up this morning the rain pounding on our roof made me want to crawl back under the covers.  if you follow me on twitter then you know my actual outfit today was a total failure.  i thought of it while i was laying in bed last night and let's just say it didn't quite turn out as planned...and worst of all, i wore it anway.
so, flashback to friday.  this is what i wore to work.  it was such a simple combination, and one i had not tried before, but the pairing of the uber-feminine skirt with a slouchy boyfriend cardigan and my throwback boots.  i added a girly statement necklace to bring more balance to the ensemble and it was the perfect outfit for a friday spent in the office and an evening out with jeb.

lazy happy weekend.

top: lark & wolff
sweater: vintage via swap
jeans: bdg
belt: uo
scarf: uo
purse: vintage coach
sneakers: converse
this was a weekend for the record books.  i read two books, took a nap, baked cookies and just had an all around weekend filled with rest and relaxation.  it was something i really needed...mostly in preparation for my annual ladies weekend coming up next weekend.
jeb and i ran errands and took a nice walk on saturday afternoon and i wanted to be comfortable and warm.  layers, layers, layers...i can't stress enough how much i love autumn layering.  i have to admit though, it seems that the days of layering alone are quickly coming to an end.  so bring on the cable-knits, button-ups and scarves.  my reliable chucks were the perfect walking shoe and the small coach satchel i found in little ocean annie's shop was an easy way to carry essentials.
onto a short week (i hope for most of you).
happy new beginnings!

happy weekend.

for the first time in months we have a relaxing weekend with very few plans.  i am thinking of baking some cookies and going for a long walk in the forest hills cemetery.  heading out later for bbq followed by another relaxing evening in.
enjoy this gorgeous november weekend!
