    i spent most of my weekend in portsmouth, new hampshire, visiting my great friend kathleen.  we had a fantastic weekend with too much delicious food and a bit of rollerskating.  when i arrived on friday, kathleen and i took a drive up the coast, from newburyport to portsmouth and stopped for these photos in rye.  so gorgeous.  luckily we had some pretty nice weather, considering we've been getting pounded by pouring rain here for the last day and a half.  

    as you've probably noticed, i have quite a collection of cardigans from j.crew, but this one takes the cake.  i love the blush color and the lace ruffles.  such a feminine look.  with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and my gray leather wedges i felt very put together and girly. 

    i hope everyone had a great weekend and are spending their sunday warm and dry.

    i found these trousers at madewell and knew they were exactly what i had been looking for!  they are chic and sophisticated, if i do say so myself.  i love the pleating, the high waist and the blousey shape.  i felt very coco chanel all day.  i wanted to wear my cheetah print peep-toes so i decided to stick with a very basic outfit.  pressed white button up, more pleated details...yes please.  i need to take some better pictures of these pants.  do them some true justice.  don't worry though, you will be seeing a lot of these guys in the upcoming weeks and months.  the perfect lightweight pants for springtime.

    well i'm off to portsmouth for the weekend to visit one of the most fabulous people in all of the world.  i hope everyone has a lovely weekend and i will be sure to do a large post when i return.

     today's outfit was inspired by a bumble bee. just kidding.  although i do recognize the similarities (and heard about them twice today).  really it comes down to my incapability to wear only black.  and as the week nears it's end, my apparel choices get brighter and brighter.  this yellow cardigan makes any outfit sunny and warm.  i wanted to pair some more feminine pieces with some edgy accessories.  that's when my moto boots and scarf with guns and knive graphics come in.  i really liked the final outcome and was surprised how easily this flowly dress could gain a bit of an edge.

     some days, some really great days, you come across a blog that just sings to you.  a few weeks ago i came across kendi's blog, kendi everyday, and had one of those moments.  beyond her amazing style and creative use of colorful pieces, kendi is also hysterical.  her posts always make me laugh and within an hour i had read every post she ever made i wished that she lived next door so we could hang out.  a few days ago, kendi did a post (see it here) and i loved the way she layered basic pieces and used her accessories to bring her personality through.  because i've recently been in my little funk, i thought i would look to some of my favorite bloggers for inspiration.  so today i mimicked kendi's ensemble.  i paired my cotton shift dress with my super-soft tan cardigan.  it was an interesting change for me to wear a belt lower on my waist, but i wanted to stay true to what i loved about kendi's outfit.  with some floral brown tights, brown leather boots and a statement necklace i think my attempt was a successful one.  so if you haven't been to kendi's blog yet....go, go, go!

     so even a sunny sky cannot make me put something bright and colorful on on a monday morning.  i wake up and am immediately drawn to the darkest and saddest shades in my closet.  today i went for this olive green belted dress with black tights, boots and blazer.  i found this dress at buffalo exchange and was drawn to the ruffled shoulders.  i tend to steer clear of items with big shoulders, but there was something so girly about this detail that i couldn't resist. as for the rest, black, black and more black.  who would have guessed?

     i have to admit that my outfit mirrored my mood.  lately i wonder if warm weather and sun can even bring me out of the gloominess i've been under.  hopefully some new and exciting adventures are around the corner.  and with summer comes visits from my family, trips to the beach and, of course, sundresses.  if anything can bring me out of this funk, its a sundress.  so for tonight, a glass of red wine, gossip girl and cuddling up on the sofa with jeb and our kitten will put me in a happier place.  one day closer to the weekend, ladies and gentleman, so let's put some smiles on our faces!
